How to Become a Member

You are very welcome to regularly participate in our worship services, whether or not you are a member. All baptized Christians who have received their First Communion are always welcome to the table of Holy Communion. You are also very welcome to participate in various activities of the congregation, regardless of membership status.

If you would like to take your commitment to Christ and to Prince of Peace to the next level, and become a member, please contact Pastor Scholtes. If you have never been baptized, the Sacrament of Holy Baptism will be the entrance into membership. If you are baptized, then you will be received through a rite called “Affirmation of Baptism.” If you are currently a member of another congregation, we will request a letter of transfer from that congregation. New adult members are brought into the congregation after a period of instruction with the pastor. These new member classes are offered once or twice a year, depending on need. If you are interested in being part of the next new members class, please contact Pastor Scholtes.

Children who have been baptized generally become adult members of the church through our confirmation program. Please contact Pastor Scholtes for more information on this.

What Membership Means

Someone once said that the church is the only membership organization that exists for the sake of those who are not members. Membership in a congregation is not about getting privileges, but about committing to a shared responsibility. Members commit to partaking regularly of the means of grace (hearing the word and receiving the sacrament of Holy Communion); in other words, attending worship. Members commit to sharing generously of their time, their talent, and their treasure with the congregation and with God’s world. Members commit to following Christ in their daily lives, and commit to helping one another do this. A better word for membership might be “discipleship.” Together, we commit to being Christ’s followers, or disciples, and to faithfully and hopefully look for his Spirit active throughout the world. If you are feeling God’s call to discipleship, we welcome you to join us in our fellowship!
